EXTERIOR PAINT COLOR SCHEMES

Chalky Wedgewood Blue
Creamy WhiteTrim
Black Iron Detailing

Throughout my design career I have found that clients, both residential and commercial, are the most mystified about choosing paint colors.  And certainly an interior designer is going to be the professional to turn to in order to make the right choices the first time around.

Peacock Blue Windows
 Bright White Trim
Adobe Red Body Color
 Black Iron Railings
I have selected thousands of paint colors throughtout   my  career.  It is my years of experience and my trained eye that have honed my ability to choose colors that are appropriate for the setting, the overall interior and exterior design and importantly, the clients needs and purposes.

During a recent trip to Puerto Rico I was stirred by the rich saturated color pallette of Old San Juan.   Deep daring colors that were suited to so many factors:  The Caribbean sun, the tropical climate, the aged Colonial Spanish Architecture and the history of the island itself.

Puerto Rico is a Painters Pallette of Full Lush, Saturated Vibrant Colors.  They are absolutely stunning in their setting!

Nowhere else could a Purple Painted Facade
look so stunning next to a Leafy Green One !

MASTER BEDROOM DESIGN

AFTER
Custom Headboard in Beige Ultrasuede
Mirrored Nightstand and Nickel Swing Arm Lamps
   Tired ?!
One thing I have noticed in my interior design career is that people tend to decorate their public spaces first and relegate their bedroom to last on the list.

Yet think of all that a bedroom can represent: a place to escape, to relax, to rest, to read, to watch television, to talk on the phone, to drink coffee in the morning... and most fundamentally: a place to recharge and replenish.

I have a wonderful client that is an elegant and graceful lady, by all definitions of the word. She energetically spearheads a charitable foundation aimed at helping children, she is upbeat, has a keen sense of humor and is constantly surrounded by friends.  This woman is dynamic and she puts in a full day, every day.

Her home is high in the air with windows overlooking Palm Beach and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.   The sun sparkles off the water and the views glisten.   So how can any room compete with that?!  It can't and in this case, it shouldn't.

For this client I loved the idea of a monochromatic palette because the view is the focal point here. The color scheme is layers of whites, ivories and creams...a virtual cloud floating in the sky!  Quiet and peaceful. Elegant and refined.  A peaceful interior design where my client could find tranquility.

I am careful with rooms that are shades of all one color to add various textures. In this case the headboard is plush ultrasuede, the dustskirt is crisp woven linen and the euroshams are a thick brocade.   Additionally I added plenty of sparkle to keep the eye entertained: nickel swing-arm light fixtures, mirrored nightstands, silver picture frames and shiny chrome nailheads on the custom designed headboard.   For an added bit of polish we applied mirror to the door fronts leading into the clients Closet and Master Bathroom.   Bonus: The mirrors reflect that multi-million dollar view!!

BEFORE
NOT a reflection of the client's true personality!!

I think that this before picture tells the design story in it's entirety.  I love to include them when I can because you can't really tell someone about the journey if you don't know where they started!!
Busy patterns, pieces out of scale with each other and a dated style were in definite need of a design makeover...

I think this journey is a road well traveled.
Now who is ready for bed??
